Public Guardian Program Marion County

The Marion County Public Guardian Program was established in 2001 by the Fifth Circuit Public Guardian Corporation.

  • A 79 year old former Viet Nam era pilot is in the Marion County jail for multiple traffic infractions.

  • A 63-year old mildly-retarded woman is referred to an Adult Protective Investigator who finds her hiding in the bushes as she fled from her abusive caregiver.

  • An 82 year old woman is missing $29,000 from her bank account due to a neighbor who surreptitiously became her “power of attorney”.

What do these 3 people have in common? They suffer from different forms of dementia, and may be a danger to themselves and others. They are being exploited. Most importantly, they have no friends or family able or willing to help them – they have become indigent.
